Comparison Of Two Films

Psycho- staircase scene (man walks up the stairs and reaches top. Another man dressed in woman’s clothes stabs him with a knife. He screams and falls down stairs. Man dressed in woman’s clothes runs down stairs and stabs him continuously).

Soundtrack: Quiet at first, but when killer emerges, loud and intense. Violins screeching creates piercing and powerful sound, which adds to the effect.

Images: Walking up the stairs, door at top of stairs opening, someone walking out, man gets stabbed/ falls down stairs, other person runs down stairs/ stabs him continuously.

Setting: Inside house nearby Motel, home to Norman Bates’ mother (supposedly). Bottom of staircase, staircase and top of staircase.

Props: Knife.

Costumes: Business suit with tie. Woman’s clothes, shoes.

Characters: Detective Milton Arbogast, and Norman Bates.
